OUR STORY... How it all started
Phil Breeden grew up in Sour Lake, Texas, where a love for food took root early and competitive sports fueled a drive to be the best. Today, Phil lives in Bandera, Texas with his wife Carmen and their son Reid Breeden (Running Boar BBQ).
Phil’s introduction to competition barbecue came in January 2015 at the Hardin County Go Texan cookoff in Silsbee, TX. With just 19 teams competing and only the top three called in each category, the stakes felt high from the start.
Phil recalls:
“I sat on my butt through chicken, then ribs, then brisket... until they got to 1st place…Boom! 1st place Brisket! I was hooked.”
What started as curiosity quickly turned into obsession. Phil began constantly mixing, tweaking, and refining new flavor profiles in search of any competitive edge. That experimentation led to the creation of Fowl Play. After countless revisions beginning in 2016, the formula was perfected and officially launched in 2018 as LC BBQ Fowl Play.
That same process still defines LC BBQ today. Every product is developed, refined, and tested in real competitions until the results prove it’s a winner. If it can’t win on the competition circuit, it doesn’t get released.
Following Fowl Play’s success, Play Bull debuted later in 2018, with Bosshog and Angry Bull joining the lineup in 2019. Since then, LC BBQ has continued to grow—always rooted in competition-tested performance and real-world results.
